I published a post last week about Chris Nikic, a Special Olympian attempting to be the first person with Down Syndrome to complete an Ironman competition. Several readers asked me to post the results. I am happy to do that here.

In order to win the coveted title, Chris would have to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 22.6 miles in under 17 hours.

He did it!

Chris is officially an Ironman.

I give him other titles too. I call him Lionheart, Courageous, Dedicated, Tenacious.

I call him Inspiration, Role Model, Superstar.

I call him Hero.

Congratulations to Chris. I hope he is taking it easy today. I can’t wait to see what his next adventure will be.

    • What a wonderful story! I hope you are Ok with me sharing on your link-up even though it doesn’t exactly fit the criteria. I thought runners would be interested! πŸ™‚

  1. When I read that last week, I thought he already did it… when I saw all the posts that came up this weekend, I was like AHHHH – so exciting that he made it. So impressive. SUCH an inspiration

  2. Yea for Chris! That’s so impressive. My husband and I were spectators at the Kona Ironman years ago. Our friend, who was competing, had a bit of bad luck and came in near the cutoff. The great thing about that is we were at the finish line to see some of the most inspirational competitors–the oldest athletes, a double amputee, and a blind man. I will never forget that experience.

I found your blog through a comment you left on Leanne’s Cresting the Hill. So glad I did!
