“This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple. The philosophy is kindness.”
“…Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama; Stephan Pastis, creator of “Pearls Before Swine“; Colossians 3:12 (respectively), three sources of wisdom and truth, are all telling us the same thing: kindness matters.

All we need in this world is to be kind to each other and ourselves. ❤

Yes! I forgot about being kind to ourselves. Sometimes that is the hardest part! 🙂

Amen to that!
In all honesty, how can we be truly kind to others if we’re not kind to ourselves?

Sounds very much like my wife’s favorite verse:
8 He has told you, O man, what is good;and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

That’s a beautiful verse too. There are a lot of them about kindness! 🙂

I’m down with that.
And I like Douglas Adams’ assertion that religion basically boils down to “…a man being nailed to a tree for saying how good it would be if everyone could to be nice to each other for a change”

I’m signing up for this, my Wednesday was also about simplicity from a different angle. I promise you I won’t make any themes :). I found it hard to be nice and kind until I realise, like anything, it takes the decision and it takes work. Some people are naturally kinder than others, but when I took personal responsibility for all that things got easier for me. Look at me ramble!

It’s important to take personal responsibility for our actions. I feel that way about patience. It doesn’t come easily to me and I have to work to be patient. I think about it almost every day!

Kindness is such a crucial practice. And so hard to teach my teen boys. I am challenging them to speak words of kindness and to do things for each other because it’s kind. 🙂
Loved these. And, I even liked the Pearls Before Swine, though I’m not usually a fan of that comic strip. 😉 Well done!

I used to think the same thing when my boys were teens. Now they are adults and they are some of the kindest people I know! Your boys will get there too. They just have to grow up a little bit. 🙂

Although important, I wouldn’t say you could sum up Christianity with that one word. Although we Christians need to do much more of it! laurensparks.net

Yes, I agree. Christianity cannot be equated to kindness. But it is an important part of teaching us how to live here on this earth.

Oh, the wisdom. I don’t think you can achieve the goals of any religion without first being kind.

Simply says it best sometimes. We need more kindness, less friction and dissension in this world if we are to survive as a people. The world is a sad place sometimes Laurie.

Yes. It is incumbent upon all of us to try to make the world just a little bit better, kinder and more compassionate!
